The state of Karnataka is gifted with some splendid beauties of nature. It has multiple places for adventurous activities. One such spectacular place is Dandeli. This place is located near River Kali and is a great white water river rafting venue, especially after the onset of monsoon.
The river rafting trail stretches for around 12 kms. The rapids here are classified into grade 2 and grade 3 which are ideal for both professionals and inexperienced rafters. While Grade 2 rapids are relatively easy to maneuver with little bumps and easy passages, the grade 3 rapids require expert steering. However, due to the presence of skilled instructors, the activity is safe for amateur as well as experienced rafting professionals.
The event started with our instructor briefing us about the Do's and Dont's. We were informed about the safety measures, life jackets, helmets, paddles and the techniques of using them. There were a series of paddle maneuvers that we had to follow based on his instructions. During the activity and based on the river section our body and paddle position had to vary according to his commands. The event started with a small raft ride in the calm sections of the river. We had a dip into the river for a few minutes before heading towards its raging white water sections.
This adrenaline-charged trip downstream took us through the rapids and lasted for almost ninety minutes. We navigated over bumpy rocks, narrow passageways and whooshing white waters of the Kali river. It was indeed an energy packed experience especially in the grade 3 rapids. This is a must try for people who are getting introduced to the sport of rafting.
